Murray, North Murray open season with wins

- Murray County High School’s Ali Ausmus drove in four runs, including two on this hit in the third inning, as Bridgett Cloer crosses the plate during the Lady Indians’ 15-2 season-opening win over Fannin County on Monday.
• Murray County 15, Fannin County 2: Lightning caused a halt to Murray County High School’s season-opening game on Monday against Fannin County High School, but it only delayed the inevitable. The Lady Indians led 8-2 at the break and didn’t let up when play resumed, rolling to a 15-2 win in four innings.
Ali Ausmus and Bailey Smith each had a pair of hits including a double, and four RBIs for Murray County. Ausmus also scored three runs. Allison Weaver drove in a pair of runs while Lindsey Adams also picked up a RBI. Attie Ridley had three hits and scored four runs for the Lady Indians.

In the circle, Bridgett Cloer got the win pitching 3 1/2 innings and allowing two runs on five hits striking out one. Makayley Sanford pitched 2/3 innings without giving up a hit.
• North Murray 8, Rome 6: North Murray High School spotted Rome High School five runs in the first inning in Monday’s season opener, and eventually fell behind 6-0. But the Lady Mountaineers battled back and took control with six runs in the fifth inning, en route to the win.
McKayla Ridley was 3 for 4 with a double and RBI for North Murray while Talli Burgess was 2 for 5 with an RBI. Alivia Ryner and Tori Henderson also had two-hit days. Burgess got the win in the circle coming on in relief and throwing three innings allowing just one hit while striking out five. Tori Henderson pitched the first four innings and struck out six.
