News briefs: Coat drive at tonight’s Dalton football game; Road resurfacing underway in Dalton; Dalton school council meetings planned

Fans attending the Dalton High School home football game tonight at 7:30 against Sequoyah are asked to bring new and used coats to benefit those in need in Dalton Public Schools. The “Warm Hearts Coat Drive” is Jackson Wright’s Boy Scouts Eagle Scout project

Milling and resurfacing work began on Tuesday on streets within the city of Dalton. This project involves 6.5 centerline miles of milling, resurfacing, thermoplastic pavement markings and raised pavement markers on 18 city streets. The project includes work on all or a portion of the following streets:

• Bolero Street

• Burleyson Road

• Cappes Street

• Cockburn Street

• Colorado Drive

• Delaware Drive

• Dug Gap Road

• East Morris Street

• Factory Street

• Hagen Street

• Jones Street

• Maiden Lane

• McGhee Drive

• School Street

• Showalter Avenue

• South Hamilton Extension

• Spencer Street

• Sycamore Circle

Work on these projects will occur mostly during the day, and motorists should expect temporary lane closures in work zones while the work is being done. Motorists should slow down and be cautious while in these work zones.

The resurfacing projects are scheduled to be completed by the middle of December. The prime contractor is Bartow Paving Co.

• Today, 1 to 3 p.m.: Blue Ridge School

• Today, noon: Roan School

• Oct. 17, 4:15 p.m: Morris Innovative High School

• Nov. 1, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Dalton Middle School

• Nov. 7, 5:30 p.m.: City Park School

• Nov. 16, 11:30 a.m.: Brookwood School

• Nov. 21, noon to 1 p.m.: Park Creek School

• Nov. 29, 2:15 to 3:15 p.m.: Westwood School

• Dec. 8, 1 to 3 p.m.: Blue Ridge School
