The North Georgia Camera Club Council sponsors the annual juried competition for amateur and professional photographers. The council membership consists of 18 camera clubs from north Georgia and east Tennessee. Photographers must have membership in one of the clubs to participate in the contest. Visit NorthGeorgiaCameraClubCouncil.org for contest rules.
The event is in Memorial Hall of the new C. Lamar and Ann Wright School of Business on the Dalton State College campus starting at 8 a.m. Participants will be tasked with photographing subject matter illustrating randomly chosen topics from five photographic categories: technique, composition, nature, architecture and conceptual photography. Following the assignment of topics, photographers will spread out into the community to create images for the competition.
Each club will submit its best entries. There will be lectures and door prizes in the afternoon. The winning photographs will be announced at an awards program at the end of the competition.
“We are proud to welcome the 200-plus photographers, judges, speakers and sponsors to our beautiful and photogenic city for this fall event,” said Bob Burns, president of the Carpet Capital Camera Club. “Participants will explore Dalton and the surrounding counties, creating photographs in a fun and stimulating environment.”
The fall shootout will be a boon for local businesses, organizers said. Competing photographers often visit the host cities in advance of the event, patronizing restaurants, hotels and other establishments in the area.
In addition to hosting the shootout, members of the Carpet Capital Camera Club will be active participants in the competition. In the past, the camera club has had a number of photographs finish as finalists, with seven of its images receiving first-place awards.
