Guild announces field trip to Atlanta’s High Museum of Art

The Creative Arts Guild is offering a field trip for interested adults to the High Museum of Art in Atlanta on Saturday, Feb. 8.
There, participants will view the exhibit “Virgil Abloh: Figures of Speech,” the High’s first museum exhibition devoted to the work of Abloh, the modern, genre-bending artist and designer who became creative director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear in 2018. A special gallery docent has been requested to lead the group through the exhibit and elaborate on the artist’s work. Also, a number of other exhibits currently open as well.

Participants will leave from the Guild at 11 a.m. and return at 10 p.m. There is limited seating on the bus. The cost of the trip is $50 per person and includes transportation and admission to the High Museum plus snacks on the bus. Dinner (not included) will be at Krog City Market before the return trip to Dalton.

The featured exhibit offers an unprecedented survey of Abloh’s creative work during nearly two decades.
Other exhibits include: “Fine Lines: American Works on Paper,” celebrating a recent gift to the High of 50 late 19th-century drawings from Atlanta collector Paul Stein on view at the museum for the first time; “Our Strange New Land,” photographs by Alex Harris, the latest chapter in the High’s “Picturing the South” commission series featuring new work by the North Carolina-based photographer on independent film sets throughout the South to explore how the region is seen, imagined and created by contemporary visual storytellers; and the “Shaheen Collection of French Works,” focusing on French art of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
