Murray Arts Council holds its first Local Artists Show Friday through Sunday. On exhibit will be more than 70 original artworks and crafts created by local artists.

The Local Artists Show is at Murray Arts Council, 120 N. Third Ave. in Chatsworth. Exhibit hours are Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free. Murray Arts Council, a nonprofit arts agency serving Chatsworth and Murray County, is across Highway 411 (or Third Avenue) from the Murray County Courthouse.

“A part of our mission is to spotlight the talent of local artists,” MAC President Lori McDaniel said. “For this first show, we contacted some of the artists that we already knew about. Our hope is that many other local artists will come to the show so we can meet them and become aware of their work, as well.”

The exhibit features approximately 70 artworks by local artists. Painter Michael Thompson ise the featured artist in the lobby area. Thompson is a longtime oil painter and has taught oil painting classes in Calhoun, Chatsworth and Dalton. Other artists whose work will be featured include: Sara Bethea, Beka Carpio, Bob Caspar, Kathi Caspar, Mike Clark, Mayelli Diaz, George Greyham, Ariel Southers and Jessica Wyatt.

“We are also thrilled to have on display art by the two area high school art teachers, Ashli Solinger of Murray High and Kristi Sitton of North Murray,” said Art Committee Co-Chair Julie Sane. “It has been wonderful seeing this show come together and meeting our local artists. Some of the artists will be present at the exhibit to talk to visitors about their artworks.”

“I’m excited at the prospect of future shows,” said Art Co-Chair Jessica Whealy. “We are really hoping other artists will come to the show and make themselves known to MAC. We would really like to make this an annual event to showcase all of our local talent.”
