Although young, Samuel and Kendrick Garner already recognize the fun and value of the library. I sat down with Samuel and Kendrick’s mother Lauren to find out more about them and what libraries mean to their family.

Question: Please tell us about your sons’ hobbies and interests.

Lauren Garner: They love to do outdoor activities and read. One of their favorite things to do is come to the library with their dad. Kendrick loves numbers and Samuel loves Spider-Man.

Question: What’s their favorite part of the library?

Garner: They both love to hang out in the storytime pond and play with the interactive computer games. At home, they enjoy reading the books and watching the movies they check out.

Question: Why is the library important to your family?

Garner: As a family of four, it’s great to have a fun, learning environment that’s also free to the public. It also helps teach my sons independence when they get to make choices on what they want to check out.

Question: What is the last book you guys read together?

Garner: The last book we read was “Snorlax’s Snacks.”

Question: What programs do you guys look forward to attending the most?

Garner: We really enjoyed Comic Book Day last year and look forward to it again. We’re interested in going to the Book Sale, and Storytime sounds interesting. They love the Take and Make kits!

Question: If your family could have three authors over for dinner, who would you invite?

Garner: They would love to meet Dr. Seuss, Roald Dahl and the writer of “Bluey,” Joe Brumm.

• “Reading teaches us that kindness makes us strong — strength doesn’t always look physical, it can also be emotional,” said Garner. Come see Samuel and Kendrick’s favorite parts of the library at the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library.
