Every summer, the Northwest Georgia Regional Library System looks forward to participating in the collaborative summer library program, a program focused on promoting literacy, education and science through programs, activities and challenges. This year’s summer reading challenge was themed “Adventure Begins at Your Library” and ran from May 20 through July 19. As we wrap up the summer and the challenge, we look back proudly on what we’ve accomplished this summer.
This year, readers reached literary peaks, explored multiple genres and conquered their reading goals. Across all three branches, we’ve had 1,316 participants who earned 11,560 badges and read a whopping 1,314,014 minutes.

Additionally, each branch planned special programs and performances at their library and some off-site locations. Patrons had the pleasure of meeting cuddly friends from Animal Adventures, having their minds blown with magician Bill Packard, cooling down with a Kona snow cone and much more. To wrap up the summer reading challenge the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library will host an End of Summer Reading Party on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Although we will miss the excitement of summer, the adventure doesn’t have to end. Stop by your local library to learn more about upcoming events and browse our expansive catalog of materials.
