Readers to Leaders is hosting its Sixth Annual Book Blast.

Join the Northwest Georgia Healthcare Partnership in a community-wide celebration of literacy on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Mack Gaston Community Center. The event is free and open to families and children of all ages. There will be storybook character meet-and-greets, information booths, snacks, drinks, games and crafts. This year, storyteller and musician Andy Irwin will be in attendance and every child will receive a book.

The literacy celebration is an annual event for Readers to Leaders, a community initiative to support, encourage and nurture early literacy among Dalton and Whitfield County students. Those interested in volunteering can register online at www.signupgenius.com/go/4090f4 bada828a0f85-2017. Volunteers will receive a Readers to Leaders T-shirt.

Readers to Leaders was established in 2012. The work of the organization is accomplished in and out of the classroom with the goal of building strong early learners who can succeed in school and life. Education leaders, government officials, business and civic leaders have committed resources to Readers to Leaders which is expanding its reach into the private sector by beginning to engage members of the health care and faith communities.
