Southeast’s softball team appears to be heating up at just the right time as they head into a big stretch of region play.
On Monday night, the host Lady Raiders made quick work of Model, handling the Lady Blue Devils, 12-0, in four innings thanks to the pitching of Kiersten Smith and some timely hitting. They cashed in runs on all 12 of hits.
“We’re happy with the way we’re playing right now,” Southeast coach Craig Brock said. “We have a young team, and sometimes they’re going to act like sophomores, and sometimes they’re not. right now, they’re not. When you’re young like we are, it’s all about confidence.”
Smith pitched a complete game for the Lady Raiders (13-7, 1-5 Region 6-3A), striking out six, walking one and surrendering six hits while allowing no runs.
At the plate, Briana Sosebee was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and three RBIs, Danielle Pearson hit 2-for-3 with a double, a run and three RBIs and Kasey Headrick was 1-for-2 with a walk, two runs and two RBIs.
Monday’s win over Model marks the fifth win in six games, as the Lady Raiders began to gain momentum at this weekend’s Score International Invitational in Chattanooga, where they went 4-1.
