When the Lady Raiders finally took the course Monday at Spring Lakes in Chatsworth against Dalton, they made the wait worth it for coach Chad Murray.
The Lady Raiders beat Dalton, with Megan Collins shooting an 11-over par 46 on the back nine, and Katelyn Burke adding a 50 for a team total of 96.
The Lady Catamounts finished at 102, getting a medalist performance from Brendi Rockholt. Dalton’s Maddie Scarborough added a 57.
Murray said that in his six years at Southeast, it’s the first time the Lady Raiders have topped the Lady Cats. He’s optimistic this year’s team might be able to join the 2005 squad, which is the last group of Lady Raiders to qualify for state, Murray said.
“I’m on cloud nine and my girls are on cloud nine,” Murray said. “We’re hoping to do some good things this year. Hopefully we can get something going on, just like that 2005 team did.
“I couldn’t be more pleased with these girls. This is a strong, strong win for them.”
