Lady Cats lose lead, drop region softball game

Dalton High’s softball team lost 7-5 at Cartersville on Wednesday, the third loss in four games to start the Region 7-3A schedule for the Lady Catamounts.

Dalton (5-5) led 4-1 after three and a half innings — the Lady Cats scored one run in both the first and third before adding two in their fourth trip to the plate— but Cartersville scored five runs in the bottom half of the fourth to pull ahead. Each team tacked on a run in the sixth.
The Lady Cats’ Sarah Stinnett had an outstanding day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, while Allie Blackwood was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Chandler McKinney had a hit, drove in a run and stole a base, while Denise Cisneros and Christen Pender each added an RBI.
Blackwood took the loss, striking out two, walking five and giving up nine hits as she worked all six innings inside the circle. Dalton matched Cartersville’s team hits total.
