Area middle school roundup: Sims stars at plate, on mound for Pioneers

North Whitfield Middle School’s Don Sims went 3-for-4 and pitched for the win in the Pioneers’ 11-1 victory over Gladden on Monday at Edwards Park in Varnell.
The game was shortened to six innings by the mercy rule, with Michael King’s three-run home run ending the game.

Sims allowed one unearned run on three hits and struck out seven batters.
Drew Sage went 2-for-4 for North Whitfield (9-1), while Eli Turso added a double as every Pioneer in the lineup had at least one hit. North Whitfield scored two runs in the first inning, four in the fourth and two in the fifth before King’s homer in the sixth finished the scoring.
Gladden took a 1-0 lead in the first when Matt Jenkins’ double scored Logan Palmer, who had reached on an error to lead off the game.
• New Hope 5, Sonoraville 4, eight innings: Brody Crossen drove in Kevin Castaneda for the winning run as the Kodiaks (7-2, 6-1 North Georgia Middle School Athletic League) picked up the extra-inning victory on Tuesday.
David Ramirez, who went 2-for-2 with a double and a two-run home run while driving in three runs, was the winning pitcher. He allowed a pair of earned runs while walking two and striking out 11, throwing just 92 pitches in the outing.
Seth Henderson added an RBI for New Hope.

• Mason Cady and Evan Lester each shot a 6-over-par 32 to lead Christian Heritage to victory in a six-hole match Tuesday at Concord Golf Course in Chattanooga.
The Lions (5-1) shot a 130, finishing ahead of Chattanooga schools St. Jude (140) and Berean (143).
Tucker Jordan and Audrey Stafford also had counting scores for Christian Heritage, with each shooting a 33.
Tennis
• Christian Heritage’s boys and girls teams both won against St. Jude on Tuesday at the Champions Club in Chattanooga.
The Lions remained undefeated through six matches this season, sweeping singles play with victories from No. 1 Jace Sanford, 8-0, No. 2 Kyle Thames, 8-2, No. 3 Will Duddleston, 8-3, No. 4 Cade Thames, 8-1, No. 5 Zac Raughton, 8-0, and No. 6 Sean Pye, 8-4.
The Lady Lions (4-2) won 8-1, getting singles victories from No. 1 Catherine Paige, 8-2, No. 2 Mary Margaret Herndon, 8-1, No. 3 Jade Smith, 8-1, and No. 4 Madison Brown, 8-1, with St. Jude forfeiting at the fifth and sixth slots. In doubles, No. 2 Haddie Chambless and Jayden Davis won 8-1, while St. Jude forfeited the No. 3 match.
