Local motocross track hosts national qualifier

The Lazy River Motocross Track in Dalton hosts qualifying races on Saturday and Sunday as the first step for riders to qualify for the American Motorcyclist Association Amateur National.

Lazy River was one of 59 tracks selected to host qualifying races. Racers that move on from the qualifying races this weekend will continue on to the regional championships to determine seeding for the AMA Amateur National at Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Hills, Tenn., from July 30 to Aug. 4.

More than 22,000 riders are expected to attempt to qualify, according to a press release. There are 35 classes that can be entered, including mini-cycle for children as well as those for women and riders over the age of 50.

Signups are Friday from 1 to 5:30 p.m. as well as 7 a.m. the morning of each race. Races will be held following the 8 a.m. practice sessions, according to the track’s Facebook page.
