High school baseball roundup: Dalton holds off Woodland for 9-8 win

Dalton 9, Woodland 8
Dalton (5-6) defeated Woodland (8-4) 9-8 Thursday in game two of a Region 7-5A series.

Dalton bounced back from a 13-1 loss in game one on Tuesday.
Dalton and Woodland were tied at 7-7 after three innings Thursday. The scoring slowed, but Dalton brought home two runs in the sixth to get a 9-7 lead.
Woodland loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh and scored one run, but Dalton pitcher Connor Stockard forced a pop-out to Charles Chappelle to end the threat, the inning and the game.
Dalton had six hits in the game as a team, and Jose Orrelanes had three of them. He went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Asher Renfroe had three RBIs.
Stockard allowed one run and struck out four in four innings of work.
Dalton and Woodland play game three of the series tonight at 5:55.

Northwest Whitfield 3, Sonoraville 2
Northwest Whitfield (11-2) held off Sonoraville (4-6) 3-2 Thursday night.
Sonoraville led 2-0 after two innings, but Northwest didn’t allow another run. The Bruins got on the board with a run in the fourth, then scored the tying and go-ahead runs in the sixth.
Northwest pitcher Will Wade allowed just three hits and struck out 13 in six innings. Hank Harrison pitched the seventh, getting three batters out in succession and ending the game with a strikeout.
Northwest was held to two hits. Trent Hixson had a double and an RBI.
The game was the second of a three-game series, with Northwest winning 9-7 on Tuesday. The third game is Monday at 5:30 p.m.
Mt. Zion 13, Christian Heritage 3
Christian Heritage (2-9) dropped a Region 7-A DII game 13-3 Thursday against Mt. Zion (11-2).
Christian Heritage took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third inning, but the Lions never scored another run. Mt. Zion scored seven runs in the bottom of the third and pulled away from there.
The Lions were held to just three hits, but Junior Castelo and Jackson Locke both doubled. Castelo brought in two runs, and Levi Holland had an RBI.
Christian Heritage hosts Mt. Zion again on Monday at 5 p.m.
Heritage 15, Southeast Whitfield 0
Southeast Whitfield (3-13) dropped the third game of a Region 7-4A series against Heritage (9-3) 15-0 Thursday night.
Heritage defeated Southeast in both games of a doubleheader Tuesday. In Thursday’s game, Heritage scored 12 runs in the first inning, and the game was called after three innings.
Southeast was held to just one hit, an Elijah Couch single.
The Raiders play at Chattooga on Saturday at 5 p.m.
