Jazmyn Wright walked away from softball her sophomore year at North Murray High School. But she came back strong her junior year and after a solid senior campaign, Wright signed this week to play at Tennessee Wesleyan.
“I have had a lot of ups and downs with softball,” Wright told the Daily Citizen. “I fractured my forearm after my freshman year and really just fell out of love with the game for awhile.”

Wright said her injury was caused by her throwing motion, When completing a pitch she bangs her throwing arm violently into her side. That took a toll over time and led to her injury.
Today, she pitches with a padded sleeve on her throwing arm. That cushions the impact and allows her to perform effectively without the wear and tear.
Wright started every game on the mound for the Lady Mountaineers in 2024 except doubleheaders. When she wasn’t pitching, she played the outfield. She expects to play both positions at Tennessee Wesleyan.
Wright said a visit to the college’s campus earlier this year convinced her that the school in Athens, Tenn. was where she wanted to continue her education and athletic career.
“It felt like home,” Wright said. “Tennessee Wesleyan is in a small town and I like that. I met some of the girls and they seemed like my kind of people. It just felt right.”
Wright said she plans to study nursing.
