Once a month we introduce you to a person from the community who uses the Northwest Georgia Regional Library System. This month I am happy to introduce Malisa Pedro. Malisa and her family are regulars at the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library. Malisa is committed to literacy and learning in our community. Read on to find out more about her.
Request: Tell us a little about yourself.
Pedro: I am married with a 4-year-old son. I serve as the Dalton/Whitfield County Family Connection coordinator. In this role, I have the opportunity to collaborate with agencies, school systems and nonprofits working with children and families and to support programs that promote school success.

Question: How do you use the library?
Pedro: My son and I regularly come to check out books, especially during breaks such as summer, winter break and spring break. Last summer we both participated in the summer reading challenge, and we are working toward 1000 Books Before Kindergarten for him. He loves to check out all the books about sharks. I also personally use the Libby app to read books for free that I have on my wish list. Professionally, I use the library to host free classes and trainings.
Q: Why is the library important to you?
Pedro: As a former elementary teacher, I know the importance of reading. Reading opens up the doors for all other subjects for students. I have made reading with my son a priority because I want to provide him with a strong foundation, and hopefully to develop a love for books like myself in him.
Q: What is your favorite book of all time? If not a book, then a movie or TV show?
Pedro: I think my favorite book is “Redeeming Love” by Francine Rivers. It has now been made into a movie. You should check it out.

Q: What was the last book you recommended to a friend?
Pedro: Currently, I am enjoying all of Kristin Hannah’s books. I have been recommending her books to people. “The Great Alone,” “The Women” and “Night Road” have been some of my favorites.
Q: If you could have three authors over for dinner (living or dead), who would you invite?
Pedro: Francine Rivers, C.S. Lewis and Paul (from the Bible) together I bet we would have some interesting conversations!
• I hope you enjoyed getting to know Malisa. If you drop by the library you might run into her. Libraries are a great place to get to know the people in your community.
