Hernandez, a freshman, was named the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division II Men’s Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week for Aug. 22-28. He had three goals in the two matches the Skyhawks won over Talladega and Warren Wilson College during that stretch.
He was one of five players to score in a 5-0 win against visiting Talladega in a season-opening victory on Aug. 24. Against Warren Wilson on Aug. 27, he had a regulation goal in which he cleaned up a shot off the crossbar to find the net, then did the same when Rene Real — another former Catamount — banged a shot off the bar in overtime, notching a golden goal in the 2-1 sudden-death victory.
Hernandez, one of several local athletes who signed this year with the program coached by Randy Douglas, also had a goal this past week. He registered the only score in a 3-1 loss to Freed-Hardeman on Tuesday.
