Dalton High School swimmer Ethan Young was one of the top eight 18-and-under swimmers in all three events he competed in last week at the USA Swimming National Championships in Irvine, Calif.

Representing the Carpet Capital Aquatics Club, Young’s best performance was Saturday, when he swam the 100-meter backstroke preliminaries in 56.03 seconds. CCAC coach Jason Meszaros said the time is the fastest among 16-year-old swimmers this year and ninth fastest among 15-16 year olds ever in USA Swimming. His finals performance was 56.15, good for fourth place in the “C-Final,” which was preserved for the fastest eight 18-and-under swimmers not in either the A-Final or B-Final.

Young swam the 200 backstroke Thursday and finished eighth in the C-Final with a time of 2:07. His preliminary time was 2:04.40, the 72nd fastest time ever for 15-16 year olds and seventh fastest time for 16-year-old swimmers this year.

Young placed seventh in Friday’s 50 backstroke C-Final with a time of 26.90.
