“Mallory is a strong runner who will add some much needed depth to our women’s team,” Bruner said in a release from Dalton State. “As part of a high school team that won state, she knows what it takes to be part of a winning team.”
Heritage won the Georgia High School Association’s Class 3A girls cross country state title in 2011, Edwards’ sophomore season. The Lady Generals were runners-up in Class 4A the past two seasons.
Edwards’ best time in the 3,200-meter run this spring during her senior track season was 13 minutes, 12.11 seconds. Her best-ever time in the 5K (3.1-mile) run for cross country is 20:04.
“Coach (Andy) Meyer and I are also impressed with her overall,” Bruner said. “She is a strong student with excellent character. We are so fortunate that she will be running for the Roadrunners this fall.”
Heritage cross country coach Jeremy Wynee agreed.
“Mallory is an extremely talented athlete and a wonderful person,” Wynee said in the release. “Her work ethic, commitment to the team and leadership make her one of the best cross country runners I’ve had the pleasure to coach.”

Wynee said he will miss her but believes Edwards, the daughter of Joan and Mel Edwards, will “be a great asset” to Dalton State.
“I’m so proud that Mallory has decided to continue her running career in college,” he said.
