Dalton High School softball fell behind Sprayberry 2-0 after the first inning in their Region 7-5A tournament game, but the Lady Catamounts turned the game around shortly after and won 8-2. A bunt single from Gabby Wright drove in Dalton’s first run in the second and the Lady Cats took the lead in the fourth. Olivia Whaley singled in a run and two more scored when McCall Maret reached base on an error.
Dalton pulled away in the sixth. Whaley led off with a double, her second of the day, and came home off an RBI double from Maret. Kianna Adams provided the big blast with a three-run home run to close out the scoring.

“My freshmen really stepped up,” Dalton coach Stacy Parker said. “The first tournament game, some of these girls it’s the first time they’ve ever been to a region tournament. They didn’t let it phase them. They did what they’ve been doing all year. I was real proud of the girls.”
Alli Swinford picked up the win in the circle. She went the distance, throwing a four-hitter with nine strikeouts.
Dalton advances in the winners bracket to play Sequoyah 6 p.m. Saturday at River Ridge High School.

Abbey Souther was 2-for-3, Halle Poteet was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Hadley Young was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a double, Adain Coulter was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Emily Burns was 1-for-2 with a two-RBI double.
