High school volleyball: Northwest finishes with a perfect region record, Dalton seeded No. 6 going into region tournament

Northwest Whitfield improved its overall record while while finishing with a perfect region record Tuesday with two wins at LaFayette.
The Lady Bruins (36-6, 6-0 in Region 6-4A) took down the Lady Raiders in two sets, 25-10, 25-18.
Kaley Long had six kills and five blocks for Northwest Whitfield and Rachel Thurman had 17 assists. Abigail Crawford had four blocks, while Shelby Gordon added six digs. Southeast Whitfield’s Savana Punchard had 13 assists in the loss, McKenna Lentych had six kills and AnnaMaria Ramsey and Marcela DeLaGarza each had three kills.
Northwest Whitfield defeated LaFayette in three sets, 22-25, 25-20, 25-15.

Long finished with 17 kills in the win, along with three blocks. Thurman added another 33 assists. Emma Allen had six kills. Gordon and Emma Hayes each had nine digs and Crawford added three aces.
Southeast Whitfield fell to LaFayette in two sets, 13-25, 5-25. Punchard had five assists and six digs, while Lentych added six kills.
Northwest Whitfield finishes as the No. 1 seed heading into their region tournament beginning Thursday, Oct. 11. The Lady Bruins receives a bye in the first round, while Southeast Whitfield, the host school, finishes as the No. 4 seed. Southeast Whitfield plays No. 5 Ridgeland in the first round of the tournament.
Northwest Whitfield closes its regular season on Thursday when it travels to Ringgold with Gordon Lee.
Calhoun 2, North Murray 0
North Murray (9-16, 2-2 in Region 6-3A) dropped to Calhoun in two sets Tuesday night, 16-25, 18-25.
Cady Wheat had four kills, and Chloe Black had two kills and three blocks for the Lady Mountaineers. Korbin Tipton had two kills and one block. Macy Isbell finished with two kills, while Julie Petty had eight assists and Haylee Sutton had another five assists.
North Murray travels to LaFayette with Christian Heritage School on Thursday.
Dalton 2, Sprayberry 0
Sequoyah 2, Dalton 0
Dalton finished as the No. 6 seed in Region 6-6A Tuesday after splitting its two final regular season region matches at Sprayberry in Marietta.
The Lady Catamounts (20-26, 3-5) defeated Sprayberry in two sets, 25-10, 25-13. Kelsey Schneller had 10 kills and three aces, while Meghan Schneller chipped in with 18 assists. Searany De La Cerda added six digs.
The Lady Catamounts then fell to Sequoyah, 16-25, 23-25. Kelsey Schneller had six kills and seven digs, while Meghan Schneller added another seven assists. Janayah Christopher had seven aces in the loss.
Dalton plays again Thursday when it travels to Southeast Whitfield with Murray County. The Region 6-6A tournament begins on Tuesday at Harrison High.
Darlington 3, Christian Heritage 2
Christian Heritage fell in its final region match to Darlington in five sets Tuesday on the road, 23-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-10, 7-15.
Caitlin Brock led the Lady Lions with 10 kills and 14 assists. Sophia Waugh had seven kills, 20 assists and six digs. Amariah Simmons ended with eight kills and two blocks. Amelia White added another eight kills, as well as 10 digs. Ava LaBoy had 17 digs, and Gracie Hill had seven digs.
Christian Heritage travels to LaFayette with North Murray on Thursday.
Ringgold 2, Coahulla Creek 0
Chattooga 2, Coahulla Creek 0
Coahulla Creek dropped two matches Tuesday night, both by two sets.
The Lady Colts first fell to Ringgold, 17-25, 9-25. Katherine Walker had five kills, and D’Anna Martinez added six digs.
Coahulla Creek also lost to Chattooga, 24-26, 15-25. Walker led the team with two kills, while Martinez had another four digs. Cayman Lankford had four assists.
The Lady Colts host Calhoun on Thursday for senior night.
