High school volleyball roundup: Northwest Whitfield stays perfect in region play

The Northwest Whitfield High School volleyball team stayed perfect in Region 6-4A Tuesday night with a win over Gilmer at home, 25-7, 25-16.

Northwest’s Kaley Long ended with eight kills, while Rachel Thurman had 18 assists for the Lady Bruins (32-2, 4-0). Shelby Morrison added three kills and two aces.

Northwest plays Friday and Saturday at the Blessed Trinity Tournament in Roswell, beginning with a match against North Forsyth at 5 p.m. on Friday.

The Christian Heritage Lady Lions dropped their region match to Mount Paran on the road Tuesday night in three sets, 15-25, 9-25, 20-25.

Caitlin Brock led the effort for CHS (10-16, 1-4 in Region 6-A) with five kills and seven assists. Sophia Waugh added four kills and three blocks, while Ava LaBoy had 10 digs. Gracie Hill added two aces and five digs and Amariah Simmons ended with two blocks.

Christian Heritage hosts Coahulla Creek on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe 2,

Coahulla Creek 0

Coahulla Creek fell to LFO at home Tuesday night in two sets, 13-25, 10-25.

Tristyn Curry, Jillian Poe, Lily Sims and Ema Turner each had one kill for Coahulla Creek. Skyla Stafford added three digs.

Coahulla Creek travels to Christian Heritage School on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Murray County 2,

North Murray 1

Murray County topped North Murray on the road Tuesday night in three sets, 25-20, 24-26, 25-21.

Morghan Amos led Murray County (8-16, 3-1 in Region 6-4A) with 10 kills, four aces and three blocks. Jaide Johns followed with two aces, one kill, six blocks and nine digs. Natalie Vance added 13 assists and four digs.

For North Murray (7-15, 2-2), Cady Wheat had eight kills and four aces. Korbin Tipton had six kills, one ace and two blocks. Chloe Black ended with three kills, two aces and one block.

Murray County hosts North Murray and Dade County Thursday at 5 p.m. for a tri-match.

Late Monday results

Northwest Whitfield 2, Dalton 1

The Lady Bruins pulled out a win over Dalton on Monday in three sets, 23-25, 25-12, 25-21.

Long led Northwest with 10 kills and four aces. Emma Allen added nine kills, while Thurman added 28 assists. Shelby Gordon had 10 digs.

Dalton 2, Coahulla Creek 0

Dalton topped the Lady Colts in straight sets.

Kelsey Schneller had 11 kills, 13 digs and three aces for the Lady Catamounts.

Northwest Whitfield 2, Coahulla Creek 0

The Lady Bruins also topped Coahulla Creek in two sets, 25-8, 25-7.

Long ended with seven kills and eight digs for Northwest. Allen ended with six kills, and Thurman added 20 assists and six aces.

Lily Sims had two kills and one dig for the Lady Colts. D’Anna Martinez had five digs.
