Lady Pioneers roll into semis

Unbeaten North Whit-field got a strong pitching performance from Emily Boyd and took advantage of four Valley Point errors in the sixth inning to post a 6-1 first-round victory Friday in the North Georgia Middle School Athletic League softball tournament at Eastbrook Park.
The Lady Pioneers (11-0) advance to today’s semifinals against Westside at 10 a.m.
Westside defeated New Hope, 4-0, behind Allie Blackwood’s pitching.
The tournament championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Boyd stopped Valley Point on one hit, a single by Tavi Parris, and struck out 15 to lead the Lady Pioneers into today’s semifinals. She walked five.
Bayli Cruse and Mykeah Johnson each had triples for North Whitfield, the only hits off the Lady Green Waves’ Parris. She went the distance and struck out five and walked five.
• Westside 4, New Hope 0: Blackwood notched the victory with an impressive 10-strikeout performance for the Lady Rockets (9-2).
Karlie Henson had a double and Halle Ford singled for Westside.
Tristen Ledford had two singles for the Lady Kodiaks.
• Dalton 4, Bagley 3: Carson Hagin struck out 12 in a winning cause and collected two hits with an RBI, including a double, for the Lady Cougars. McKenzie Brown and Destinee Woods each had two hits.
