Brewton-Parker College officials have denied anyone misled a local female basketball player concerning a scholarship to the school.

A story in Tuesday’s Daily Citizen quoted the player as saying she believed she had been offered a full scholarship by Brewton-Parker. She later said the offer turned out to be a partial scholarship.

“I felt a little bit misled,” she was quoted as saying.

The player has since signed with Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tenn.

The school’s statement, released by the Office of News and Public Relations, said “It is not our practice at Brewton-Parker College to mislead prospective students, nor do we feel this is the case in this situation. Every student who receives a junior varsity scholarship is told up front about the amount of funding, and our Office of Financial Aid works closely with students to determine other means of financial assistance. We wish the student every success in her academic and athletic career.”

Brewton-Parker is the only accredited four-year Christian college in South Georgia. With its main campus located in Mount Vernon, the college also offers bachelor’s and associates degrees at external sites in Newnan, Norman Park and Liberty County.
