High School Roundup: Murray County tennis sweeps Southeast

BOYS TENNIS
• Murray County 4, Southeast Whitfield 1: Due to weather issues, Monday’s match at Southeast was played with all matches consisting of one set to eight games. The Indians (6-3) swept the doubles matches with the No. 1 team of John Reed and Logan Harrison winning 8-5 and the No. 2 team of Sawyer Miller and Hunter Sosebee winning 8-2. In singles play, the Indians’ Jacob Quast and Tucker Hemphill won the first and second matches respectively, each by 8-1 scores.

GIRLS TENNIS
• Murray County 4, Southeast Whitfield 1: The Lady Indians improved to 7-2 on the season with the win on the road on Monday.
In singles action, Meredith Page won the No. 1 match 8-0 while Morgan Bostic won at third singles 8-1. Murray County’s top doubles team of Jayden Davis and Makamie Garland won 8-3 while the No. 2 team of Alyssa Jones and Mikayla Feltman won 8-0.
Southeast’s lone win came at No. 2 singles from Allyson Kountz who won 8-3.
BOYS SOCCER
• Southeast Whitfield 1, Ridgeland 0: The Raiders (9-1, 3-0 Region 6-4A) outshot Ridgeland 11-2 in the first half, but were only able to get one into the net as Diego Landeros scored in the 33rd minute. The match was stopped two minutes into the second half due to lightning.

• Morris Innovative 4, Mount Zion 2: The Tigers improved to 3-5-1 overall and 2-0 in region play with Monday’s win on the road. Marcos Ruiz got Morris on the scoreboard and Alexis Alvarez followed with a pair of goals, one off a penalty kick and another he headed into the net. Ruiz added the fourth goal as well.
LACROSSE
• Harrison 19, Dalton 1: Monday’s game at Dalton was delayed twice by lightning and when action commenced, the Hoyas stormed past a Catamounts team that entered the contest “banged up,” according to coach Brian Maskarinec.
DJ Hutchinson scored Dalton’s lone goal. Issac Turner, normally a defenseman, started in goal for Dalton and made a number of big saves.
JV BOYS SOCCER
• Dalton 7, Baylor 0: In a match cut 15 minutes short, the Catamounts (6-1-2) got three goals from Jose Moreno and one each from Alexis Magana, Edger Perez, Miguel Perez and Manuel Prieto. Magana added two assists while Prieto, Edger Perez, Moreno, Cristian Lopez and Axel Salices added helpers.
JV GIRLS SOCCER
• Southeast Whitfield 6, North Murray 2: Lexie Harris scored four goals for the Lady Raiders while Michelle Hernandez tallied two. Gabby Sotelo had five saves in goal as Southeast improves to 2-1-1.
• Heritage 2, Northwest Whitfield 1: Anna Lee Corbin scored the Lady Bruins goal as they fell to 4-4-1 on the year. Brooke Alvarez had eight saves in goal. The match was stopped with18 minutes left due to lightning.
JV TENNIS
• The Northwest Whitfield girls beat Coahulla Creek 5-0 on Monday. The Lady Bruins got singles wins from Claire Rann, 8-2; Daniela Vaca, 8-0; and Alex Smith, 8-4, and doubles wins from Dina Fahmy and Taylor Fowler, 8-1, and Paige Hughes and Valen Windom, 8-5.
The boys match ended tied due to a match that wasn’t completed due to weather. The Bruins got wins from Paxton Gordon (8-2) and Matthew Harris (8-1).
• Dalton High School’s boys beat Darlington 5-0. Getting wins were Kyle Thames, Henry Stevenson, Charlie McClurg, Hunter Jones and Fletcher Griffin. The Dalton girls lost 3-2 but got wins from Lauren Hughes and the doubles team of Emma Mitchell and Deisy Arredondo.
JV BASEBALL
• Northwest 7, Southeast 1: Will Helton had two RBIs for the Bruins and Noah Newman drove in one. Daylin Young had two hits including a double. Bailey McQuaig pitched five innings, giving up one run on two hits while striking out nine to get the win.
