The Daily Citizen-News high school fantasy football league

For the second straight year, the Daily Citizen-News will conduct a high school football fantasy football league during the upcoming season.

Managing editor Jamie Jones, sports editor Tony Maluso and sports writers Jacob Hoag and Chris Hillyard will manage a team of local high school players, accumulating points and trying to win head-to-head matchups.

Jones won the league championship last season by beating Maluso in the title game.

Each week, each team submits a starting lineup of one quarterback, one running back, one wide receiver, a flex position (a running back, wide receiver or tight end), a team defense, a kicker and a head coach.

Scoring follows that of standard fantasy football leagues. Each 10 yards gained on Friday nights earn the fantasy player one point, a quarterback gets one point for every 20 yards passing. A touchdown is worth six points. Defenses earn one point for a sack, two points for an interception, fumble recovery or safety. Kickers get one point for each extra point, three points for field goals under 35 yards, four points for field goals 35-39 yards and five points for a field goal over 40 yards. When a coach wins a game on Friday night, he earns his fantasy team five points.

The league includes all seven Whitfield and Murray County varsity football teams. Each team manager is required to have at least one person from each school on their roster each week, unless a school is on an off week. In addition, each person must start a player from each school at least once over the course of the season.

There will be a 10-week regular season with Week 11 being the league semifinals and Week 12 being championship week.
