High School Roundup: Raiders, Bruins baseball posts wins

BASEBALL
• Southeast Whitfield 6, Pickens 3: Nine strikeouts from pitcher Murphy Flood helped the Raiders defeat the Dragons and move to 11-18 on the season and 4-13 in Region 6-4A.

Flood pitched a complete game, allowing three earned runs on six hits.
The Raiders scored two in the top of the first inning off RBI-singles from Omar Chavarria and Bryson Lofton. Pickens cut into that lead with a home run in the second, but Southeast answered with an RBI-double from Lofton.
The Raiders totalled three more runs in the fourth and sixth innings off two RBI-triples from Adam Sowder and one by Flood.
• Northwest Whitfield 11, Ridgeland 0: Pitcher Jake Bearden tossed five scoreless innings with eight strikeouts in a rout of Ridgeland.
Already up 3-0, the Bruins (14-14, 11-6 Region 6-4A) piled on eight runs in the fourth inning. David Ramirez went 4 for 4 with four RBIs, Jack Brock was 3 for 3 with two RBIs and Matthew Redmond, Reed McClain and Brody Crossen contributed RBIs.
• Ringgold 6, Murray County 4: The Indians (3-25) hung with Region 6-3A’s top team, but ran out of time falling to 0-17 in region play with one game remaining.

The Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Murray County began to catch up. Wally Underwood hit a 2-RBI double to right field to cut the deficit in half, but Ringgold answered with two runs of its own.
The Indians made another charge, getting RBIs from Preston VanMeter and Josh Cain in the fifth inning, but they couldn’t muster enough runs for the comeback. Cain pitched five innings, giving up five earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
• Whitefield Academy 24, Christian Heritage 2: Whitefield Academy piled on 24 runs off 20 hits to beat the Lions (4-21, 0-18 Region 6-A).
William Green and Syd Reece had RBIs for the Lions.
GIRLS SOCCER
• Christian Heritage 1, Ridgeland 1: Before the The Lady Lions (5-6-1) head into the Class A state playoffs, hosting a game for the second straight year, they closed their regular season with a tie against Ridgeland.
Sierra Dixon got the lone goal for the Lady Lions and keeper Lexi Gowin had five saves.
BOYS GOLF
• Coahulla Creek High School finished fifth out of the 10 teams that wrapped up their rounds prior to nightfall at the Heritage Invitational at Nob North Golf Course.
Carter Staten scored an 84, followed by Spencer Hammontree with a 90 and John Hammontree with a 94. Landon Callahan shot a 100.
GIRLS GOLF
• Murray County High School’s Tori Owens tied for first place with a 1-over 39 in a quad match with Adairsville, Calhoun and Sonoraville high schools, which had 14 golfers.
