High school baseball roundup: Northwest pitching continues to dominate; Dalton falls in close game at home while Southeast loses in extras

Northwest Whitfield 8, LaFayette 0

Ty Fisher pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout as Northwest defeated LaFayette at home on Tuesday night. Northwest improved its record to 8-2, 4-0 in Region 6-4A, while LaFayette dropped to 2-3, 0-1.

Matthew Redmond finished 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored, while Hank Bearden finished 1-for-1 with two runs scored and two walks. Bearden recorded three of Northwest’s six stolen bases in the game, while Eli Nance, Reed McClain and Jacob Sanders each finished with base hits. Fisher finished with nine strikeouts on the mound.

Northwest will play at 5:30 p.m. today at LaFayette.

Sonoraville 13, Murray County 0

A seven-run top of the fifth inning by Sonoraville was too much to overcome as Murray County lost on Tuesday night in a 5-inning game played at Lakepoint Sporting Community. The loss drops Murray County’s record to 0-7, 0-1 in Region 6-3A while Sonoraville improves to 6-4, 1-0.

Cody Dunn, Justin Goswick and Logan Palmer recorded hits for Murray County, which was out-hit 10-to-3.

Murray County will play at 5 p.m. today at North Murray.

Allatoona 3, Dalton 1

The Catamounts led 1-0 through five innings, but Allatoona scored three runs in the final two innings to win the game on Tuesday night in Dalton. Justin Ketchem pitched a complete game for Dalton, allowing seven hits, one earned run and striking out two. The loss drops Dalton to 4-7, 0-4 in Region 6-6A while Allatoona improves to 8-5, 3-1.

Rhett Hammontree, Brant Bagley and Caleb Nix each recorded hits for Dalton. Bagley’s RBI single in the bottom of the first scored Hammontree for the Dalton run.

Dalton will play at 5:55 p.m. on Thursday at home against River Ridge.

Ridgeland 7, Southeast Whitfield 6

Southeast Whitfield lost in walk-off fashion in extra innings on Tuesday night at Ridgeland. With the game tied at six after seven innings, Ridgeland scored on a single in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn the victory. The loss drops Southeast to 5-5, 1-2 in Region 6-4A, while Ridgeland improves to 3-4, 2-2.

Omar Chavarria finished 1-for-3 with an RBI for Southeast while Javier Favela, Andrew Fowler, Murphy Flood, Adam Sowder and Will Harvey all recorded base hits as well.

Southeast will play at 5:55 p.m. today at home against Ridgeland.
