Playing on the road in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs, the Coahulla Creek High School girls soccer team lost to Greater Atlanta Christian 7-0 Tuesday night.
“Our girls battled all they could,” Coahulla Creek coach Shannon Coley said. “GAC was an excellent team. They had a lot of speed and a lot of skill at every position.”

Coahulla Creek held its own in the first half, and began the second half trailing 2-0. Beyond a few counterattack opportunities, the majority of the second half was played on the Coahulla Creek side of the field. Coley said Coahulla Creek goalkeeper Yoselin Torres did everything she could to keep the score close and added that players like Rachel Larsen and Esmeralda Rangel gave great effort.
“Yoselin had an exceptional game,” Coley said. “She really kept us in the game, even with a final score like it was.”
The Lady Colts end their season with a record of 12-6-2. The team finished third in Region 6-3A with a region record of 6-2, and Coley said this year’s players accomplished everything they set out to achieve.
“The goal was to make it to state, and they reached that goal,” Coley said. “But beyond that, they’re setting the bar for years to come and they need to be proud of what they accomplished. We hadn’t made the state in two years and this group accomplished that goal. They have nothing to feel down about and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
