High school basketball roundup: Southeast girls slip past Chattooga; TDA girls earn program’s first win

Boys

Coahulla Creek 65, Signal Mountain 63

Coahulla Creek (3-2) slipped past Signal Mountain (3-2) 65-63 on the road Wednesday night.

The Colts trailed 63-61 with 40 seconds left before Cullen Marti hit a go-ahead 3-pointer. Chase Ward added a late free throw after the Colt defense held Signal Mountain without a score.

Marti led the Colts with 25 points. Ward scored 17, while Carter Quarles put in 15.

Coahulla Creek plays its first Region 6-3A game tonight at 8:30 at Bremen.

The Dalton Academy 70, Georgia School for the Deaf 12

The Dalton Academy (1-4) earned its first win of the season by downing Georgia School for the Deaf 70-12 on Thursday.

The Pumas play at Southeast Whitfield tonight at 7:30.

Girls

The Dalton Academy 67, Georgia School for the Deaf 8

The Dalton Academy (1-4) got the first win in program history Thursday night when the Lady Pumas beat Georgia School for the Deaf 67-8.

The Lady Pumas are in their third year since starting the program from scratch in 2021.

Evelyn Medina scored 24 points to set a new program mark for most points in a game. Nariah Jenkins and Lori Ocampo both scored 10.

The Pumas play at Southeast Whitfield tonight.

Murray County 40, Hamilton Heights Christian Academy 28

Murray County (3-1) pulled away after halftime to down Hamilton Heights Christian Academy (1-4) 40-28 Thursday.

Murray trailed Hamilton Heights 18-16 at halftime, but held the visitors to just 10 points in the final two quarters. 

Miley McClure led the Lady Indians with 14 points. Skyler Mahoney scored 10 and pulled down eight rebounds.

Murray plays at Northwest Whitfield tonight at 7.

Southeast Whitfield 43, Chattooga 42

Southeast Whitfield (2-3) avenged a loss earlier this season by slipping past Chattooga (2-4) 43-42 at home on Thursday.

The Lady Raiders, which lost 48-33 to Chattooga earlier this year, were led by Trinity Burse, who scored 14 points. Danahi Reza put in 12 points.

Southeast hosts Dalton Academy tonight at 6.

Signal Mountain 50, Coahulla Creek 37

Coahulla Creek (4-1) took its first loss of the season Wednesday night, falling 50-37 at Signal Mountain (5-0).

The Lady Colts play at Bremen tonight at 7 for their first Region 6-3A game.
