High school baseball roundup: Wade’s pitching, late burst of runs help Bruins beat Dalton

Northwest Whitfield 5, Dalton 3
Pitcher Will Wade struck out 14 and held Dalton scoreless in six of seven innings and Northwest Whitfield (9-2) scored the game’s final four runs to beat Dalton (4-5) 5-3 in Dalton Thursday night.

After Northwest scored the first run in the top of the third inning, Dalton responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Bruins scored three in the top of the fifth, then brought home an insurance run in the sixth.
Wade finished out the final two innings without giving up another run, and the Bruins took the win. Wade pitched a complete game, allowing three hits.
All three of Dalton’s hits came in the fourth inning in what was an otherwise spotless start.
Dalton’s Jose Orrelanes homered to lead off the inning and get Dalton on the board. A Connor Stockard single scored another run, and a sacrifice bunt brought in another before an Ethan Long single later in the inning.
But, once the Bruins grabbed back the lead in the fifth, Wade held the Catamounts off the board.

Hank Scruggs picked up RBIs on three of the five Northwest runs, finishing 2-for-4. Gavin Nuckolls also drove a run in, and Austin Cooley finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate.
The two teams play again tonight at 5, this time in Tunnel Hill.
LaFayette 5, Christian Heritage 3
Christian Heritage (1-8) dropped 5-3 to LaFayette (6-4) Wednesday.
LaFayette took a 5-1 lead headed into the sixth. Christian Heritage scored a run apiece in the sixth and seventh, but the comeback finished two runs shy.
Junior Castelo was 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs for the Lions, and David Person also finished 2-for-3. Jace Denson had an RBI.
Christian Heritage plays Gordon Lee Saturday at 1 p.m.
Ridgeland 6, Southeast Whitfield 3 Ridgeland 13, Southeast Whitfield 3
Southeast Whitfield (3-9) dropped both games of a doubleheader to Ridgeland (9-0) Thursday night.
Ridgeland won game one 6-3 and took the second 13-3.
In the first game, Southeast took a 2-0 lead, then tied the game 3-3 in the fourth inning, but Ridgeland scored two in the fifth and another in the sixth.
Noah Singleton had an RBI for the Raiders. Ethan Hampton, Elijah Couch and Mason Williams all singled.
In the second game, Ridgeland already had a 12-0 lead by the time Southeast got on the board with three fifth-inning runs.
Singleton was 2-for-2, and Williams and Nate Seay had RBIs.
Southeast plays at Gilmer Saturday at 1 p.m.
