High school baseball roundup: Murray splits doubleheader with Haralson County

Murray County (3-11) split a doubleheader with Haralson County (9-4) Monday night, with both teams winning a game by one run.

Murray County won the first game 5-4, and Haralson County won the second 9-8.

In the first game, Murray scored five runs in the first inning and held on the rest of the way. Haralson cut it to 5-4 after three runs in the fifth, but couldn’t fully erase the early Murray lead.

Tristyn Perry had a double and a pair of RBIs for the Indians, while Trent Childers and Braxton Vineyard both finished with a pair of hits.

Perry also went all seven innings on the mound for the Indians, allowing just three hits and striking out six.

In the second game, Haralson trailed Murray 8-7 entering the bottom of the seventh, but scored the tying and go-ahead runs to take the win. Murray had scored three runs in the top of the seventh to grab the lead.

The Indians were held to just three hits in the game, one of which was a homer by Perry. Perry finished with a pair of RBIs, and Aidan McClure and B Colter each had one.

Cedartown 11, Northwest Whitfield 2

Northwest Whitfield (15-3) had its nine-game win streak snapped with an 11-2 loss against Cedartown (4-14) Monday.

Northwest cut Cedartown’s lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning, but Cedartown put up five runs in the third to pull away.

Cedartown held Northwest to four hits. Cooley went 2-for-3 for the Bruins with a double. Eli Speights had a double and an RBI, and Gavin Nuckolls had a double.

The two teams finish off a three-game Region 7-4A series with a doubleheader at Cedartown Friday starting at 5 p.m.
