DSC track team sets personal records at Lee Invitational

The Dalton State College women’s track and field team hit the Ray Conn Sports Complex in Cleveland, Tennessee, on Friday and Saturday for their second outdoor meet of the season, with three women recording personal records during the course of the Lee Invitational.

Four Lady Roadrunners hit a personal record over the two-day invitational with Madison Todd collecting two of her own. Todd hit 5:32 in the 1,500 meters and 19:44 in the 5,000 meters. Marlene Paez finished just ahead of Todd in the 5,000 meters and set a personal record at 19:40. Jazzmyn Shelton won her heat in the 200 meters and claimed a personal best at 28.33. Freshman Ellie McGhee was the last personal record with a 13.40 in the 100 meters.

Paez and Giselle Dominguez ran impressively in the 10,000 meters, running 41:13 and 41:01, respectively. Both times rank in the top 15 of the NAIA this season.

Freshman Alexys Hines was solid in the 100 meter hurdles, placing 15th in 17.04 while also grabbing 10th in the triple jump at 9.36 meters. Shelton competed in long jump and came away 12th with a 4.62-meter measurement.

In the relay portion of the meet, the 4×100 team of Hines, McGhee, Shelton, and Haley Hartman finished ninth overall in 54.80, with the 4×400 team of Dominguez, Hartman, Todd, and Kayla Mattox coming away with a seventh place finish in 5:07.

Ella Coley ran the 5,000 and 10,000 meter races with times of 21:27 and 44:42. Mattox also competed in the 3,000 meter Steeplechase, placing fifth in 14:02.

It will be short rest for the Lady Roadrunners as they will compete again on Friday in the Kennesaw State Invitational at Kennesaw Outdoor Track and Field Facility in Kennesaw.
