“This is easily the hardest professional decision I’ve ever had to make,” Adams said in a press release posted by Notre Dame. “I love those kids more than just about anything, and I’m very proud of what we’ve done.”
Adams took Notre Dame to a 2023 runner-up finish in the Tennessee state tournament. He’s compiled a record of 141-81 in seven seasons and led Notre Dame to the state tournament six times.
Adams will take over for Ryan Scoggins, who led the program from 2019 through this past season.
Scoggins’s last team for the Catamounts rallied from a 4-11 start to finish 13-15 and reached the Class 5A playoffs. Scoggins was named Region 7-5A coach of the year.
He led the Catamounts to two state tournament appearances, and his 2021 team broke a playoff drought of eight seasons.
Adams is a native of Ringgold who played in high school at Chattanooga’s Baylor and then collegiately at Old Dominion. He lives in Calhoun.

After playing four years of college basketball, serving as a spot starter and off-the bench performer as a 6-foot-6-inch forward, Adams spent time as an assistant coach at Tennessee-Chattanooga and the McCallie School in Chattanooga.
He got the job at Notre Dame in 2017.
