High school soccer playoffs: Northwest boys go on the road to upend Clarkston; Seasons end for Murray teams

- The Northwest Whitfield High School boys soccer team defeated Clarkston Friday in the Class 4A playoffs.
Boys Northwest Whitfield 1, Clarkston 0
Third-seeded Northwest Whitfield (7-7-4) went on the road to Clarkston (15-4) and knocked off the second-seeded Angoras 1-0 Friday night in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs.

Connor Stiles scored the lone goal of the game that lifts Northwest into the second round. Despite being a third seed, Northwest will get to return home to host a game in Tunnel Hill in the Sweet 16.
Fourth-seeded Cedar Shoals knocked off Pace Academy, so the Bruins will host Cedar Shoals next Friday in the second round.
Despite entering the postseason with a losing record, Northwest beat a Clarkston team that boasted 15 wins on the season.
Walker 3, Murray County 0
Murray County (5-12-1) had its season ended with a 3-0 first-round loss to Walker (14-3) on Thursday in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
Murray was the fourth-seeded team from Region 7-2A, while Walker, located in Marietta, was the Region 6-2A champion.

Walker advances to the second round of the 2A playoffs and will host Providence Christian.
Murray reached the postseason for the seventh straight season.
Girls Walker 5, Murray County 0
Murray County (10-9) fell to Walker (10-4-2) 5-0 Thursday in Marietta in the first round of the Class 2A state playoffs, ending the season for the Lady Indians.
Murray came into the postseason winners of five of its previous six games, but a hot streak cooled off against Walker, which was the second seeded team from Region 6-2A.
Murray County grabbed the third seed in Region 7-2A and reached the playoffs this season for just the second time in school history. The Lady Indians made the postseason for the first time last year, then made a repeat trip this season.
Walker advances to the second round and will travel to play Landmark Christian in Fairburn.
