High school softball roundup: Dalton gets first win, Murray continues hot streak

Tuesday Coahulla Creek 9, Ridgeland 4
Coahulla Creek (1-0) opened its season with a 9-4 win over Ridgeland (1-2) on Tuesday.

Creek fell behind 3-2 in the top of the fourth, but responded with four in the bottom of the inning to seize back the lead for good.
Nora Milam doubled and tripled and had an RBI. Caroline Reed, Annie Reed and Ally Franks all had two RBIs. Haley Curtis pitched all seven innings for Creek, allowing just three hits.
Creek plays Ridgeland again Friday.
Northwest Whitfield 9, North Murray 8
Northwest Whitfield (2-2) scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to knock off North Murray (0-3) 9-8 on Tuesday.
North Murray scored three in the seventh to take an 8-5 lead. Northwest put in four to take the win, notching the walk-off winner when North Murray couldn’t handle a grounder by Kallie Smith, allowing Libby Lee to score the winning run.

Lee and Jolie Albertson both doubled and tripled, and Lee and Maggie Brooker both had three hits. Albertson collected three RBIs.
For North Murray, Kaitlyn Malone doubled, while Kylie Corbin drove in two runs. Jaylen Jones and Austynn Smith both tallied three hits.
Murray County 9, Dade County 6
Murray County (3-1) knocked off Dade County (1-2) 9-6 on Tuesday.
Blakelee Ledford had two doubles and two RBIs. Lanie Spence had a pair of hits, including a double, while Branlyn Fouts went 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Emerie Bohannon allowed four hits and kept Dade off the board in every inning but the sixth in the win.
Cartersville 15, Dalton 1
Cartersville (2-0) shut down Dalton (1-2) 15-1 on Tuesday.
After Dalton tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first with a Nayeli Olvera double, Cartersville rattled off 14 straight runs, including nine in the fifth and final inning of play.
Cedartown 5, Southeast Whitfield 4
Southeast Whitfield (0-3) fell 5-4 to Cedartown (3-0) Tuesday.
After Southeast scored two runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 4-4, Cedartown added the game-winning run in the bottom of the inning. Southeast couldn’t match to start the seventh.
For Southeast, Chyann Blevins went 2-for-2 with a double. Michaela Pendley, Lydia Kidd and Allie Azurdia all drove in runs.
Wednesday Pickens 11, North Murray 9
North Murray (0-3) fell to Pickens (3-1) 11-9 in 11 innings Wednesday.
North Murray entered the bottom of the seventh needing three runs to tie and extend the game, and the Lady Mountaineers got them. The eighth and ninth innings were scoreless, and both teams scored a run apiece in the 10th. In the 11th, Pickens scored three runs, but North Murray could only match with one.
North Murray fell just shy despite Kaitlyn Malone’s 4-for-4 night with a double and an RBI. Angel Tant doubled and had two RBIs, while Jaylen Jones tripled and added two RBIs. L Beavers had a pair of RBIs.
North Murray next plays Saturday.
Thursday Dalton 9, Hiram 2
Dalton (1-2) earned its first win of the season with a 9-2 win over Hiram (0-3) Thursday.
Nayeli Olvera went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, and Kaylee Tatum and Ella Hill both collected doubles among their three hits as Dalton piled up 16 total hits. Samya Simpson had two RBIs and Zoe Parker doubled.
Tatum pitched four innings, allowing just one hit and striking out eight. Claire Miller polished off the win by pitching the last three.
Dalton plays Dade County Friday at 4 p.m.
Adairsville 18, Christian Heritage 1
Christian Heritage (0-1) opened the season with an 18-1 defeat to Adairsville (3-0) Thursday.
Adairsville scored 12 runs in the second and the game was called after three innings.
Kate Mireles brought home the Christian Heritage run, which occurred in the bottom of the first. Ariana Battle and Kaymin Arrants both doubled.
Christian Heritage plays Saturday.
Allatoona 8, Southeast Whitfield 0
Southeast Whitfield (0-3) was blanked 8-0 by Allatoona Thursday.
The Raiders were held to just two hits, both of which came off the bat of Michaela Pendley.
Southeast plays Cass Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Murray County 6, Gilmer 3
Murray County (3-1) defeated Gilmer (1-3) 6-3 Thursday night.
Murray scored three runs to start the first inning and never relinquished the lead.
Charlsey Richards and Blakelee Ledford doubled. Richards and Ledford were joined by Emerie Bohannon and Annabelle Ingle with two hits apiece, and Brayleigh Amos had two RBIs.
Bohannon earned the win from the mound by striking out seven in seven innings.
Murray plays Chattooga Friday at 4 p.m.
