High school volleyball roundup: Christian Heritage, Coahulla Creek start with wins

Christian Heritage 3, Sonoraville 1

Christian Heritage (1-0) opened its season with a 3-1 victory over Sonoraville (0-1) Thursday night.

Christian Heritage won the first set 25-14, but Sonoraville struck back with a 26-24 win in the second. Christian Heritage won 25-22 to get a 2-1 lead, then earned a 25-16 win in the fourth set to take the match.

Carly Bramlett had 15 assists, 13 digs, 12 kills and five aces for Christian Heritage. Taylor Horne had 17 digs, while Kate Regal had 10 digs and four aces. Kristen Michmerhuizen had eight kills and a pair of blocks, while Devyn Leach had five kills and three blocks.

Christian Heritage plays a tri-match against Heritage and Oakwood Christian at Ringgold’s Heritage High on Aug. 15.

Coahulla Creek 3, Dade County 0

Coahulla Creek (1-0) began the season with a 3-0 sweep of Dade County (0-1) Thursday.

Creek won each of the three sets by a slim margin, taking the first 25-20, then winning 25-21 in both the second and third.

Alyce Norton had eight kills for Creek to go with five digs and four aces. Aubree Langley and Jelleny Mallozi each had four kills, while Mallozzi added 16 assists. Katie Hambright had seven assists.

Creek plays Trion and LaFayette in a tri-match at LaFayette on Tuesday.

LaFayette 3, Murray County 1

Murray County (0-1) fell 3-1 to LaFayette (1-0) Thursday night.

After dropping the first two sets 25-18 and 25-12, Murray took the third 25-15 to keep the game going. LaFayette won a hard-fought fourth set 26-24.

Murray hosts a tri-match with Armuchee and Coosa on Tuesday.

North Murray drops a pair in season-opening tri-match

North Murray (0-2) fell in both games of a season-opening tri-match on Thursday, falling to Adairsville (1-1) 2-1 and Rome (2-0) 2-0.

Against Adairsville, North Murray took the first set 25-22, then Adairsville won the second 25-18. Adairsville slipped by North Murray 15-13 in the tiebreaker set.

Ella Headrick had seven kills, while Taylor Whaley had 13 assists and four aces. Caydin Herndon and Sianna Blankenship both had five digs, and Herndon had five aces.

Against Rome, North Murray dropped the first set 25-15 and the second 25-11. Herndon had three digs and Whaley had three assists.

North Murray hosts Gordon Central on Tuesday.
