Dalton State cross country: Lady Roadrunners begin season with win

Dalton State College’s women’s cross country team got the 2024 season off to a hot start on Friday evening by winning the Mountainside Stride at Reflection Riding Center in Chattanooga.

DSC scored a low total of 23 points and a team time of 2:04.37 with Covenant College in second with 63 points. Giselle Dominguez collected the individual title at 24:24 in the 6K.

Two freshmen placed in the top five with Dominguez as Virginia Vasquez-Nielsen and Kylie Gray finishing third and fourth, respectively. Lexi Lyon and Haley Hartman finished seventh and eighth as the final counting scores toward the team total.

Marlene Paez finished 14th and Madison Todd 18th with times under 27 minutes. Kayla Mattox and Juliana Ruiz were the final two Lady Roadrunners in the lineup and came home 29th and 31st.

On the docket next for the Lady Roadrunners is a trip to Nashville for the Trevecca Opener at Percy Warner Park on Saturday. The gun is scheduled to go off a 8 a.m. central time.
