Dalton State soccer: DSC men open conference play with win, women draw with Thomas

The Dalton State College men’s soccer team opened Southern States Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 road win over Thomas in Thomasville on Saturday.

The Roadrunners (7-0-0, 1-0-0 SSAC) scored a first-half goal and added two more after the break to knock off Thomas (2-3-2, 1-1-0 SSAC) 3-0.

Jack Stainrod scored in the 25th minute to put the Roadrunners in front, doing so off an assist from Kazuma Ishizuka. Ishizuka got in on the scoring with a goal in the 58th, and Jip van den Essen finished off the scoring with a goal in the 82nd.

Dalton State out shot Thomas 12-4 overall and 4-2 in shots on goal.

The three scorers for Dalton State each had two shots on goal to share the Dalton State lead, and Jesus Huitanda, Mason Dalton and Pedro Nunes each also got a shot on frame.

The win is the fifth shutout victory in seven total games for the undefeated, untied Roadrunners. Dalton State has outscored its opponents 19-2 overall this season.

Dalton State returns home for a game Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. against SSAC foe Faulkner.

After opening its own SSAC slate with a 6-0 win over Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Thursday, the DSC women’s team followed up with a scoreless draw against Thomas on Saturday.

Dalton State (3-0-2, 1-0-1 SSAC) held a 13-7 shot advantage over Thomas (3-4-1, 0-1-1 SSAC), but couldn’t coax a ball into the net.

Ria Cox led the way for DSC with three shots on goal, and Cox and Ava Vandoren both had three shots overall.

Brooke Alvarez tallied three saves.

Dalton State pays Faulkner Wednesday at 5 p.m. at home.
