High school volleyball: Northwest goes 6-0 to claim Raider Rally championship

Northwest Whitfield High School won six straight matches of Volleyball in one day to capture the crown at the Raider Rally tournament hosted by Southeast Whitfield High on Saturday.

After a 2-1 victory over Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe to start the day, Northwest didn’t drop a set in five straight wins to earn the title.

The Lady Bruins defeated Chattooga, Adairsville, Southeast Whitfield, Chattooga again and LaFayette all 2-0 to finish off the day.

Across the almost 12 hours of volleyball, Megan Torbett piled up 78 assists, 20 digs, 14 kills, nine aces and four blocks. Mary Susan Broadrick had 43 kills, 11 blocks and eight aces, while Beckley Manning had 41 kills, seven digs and three blocks.

Emma Wheeler had 37 digs, 21 aces and seven assists. Paola Cuna had 21 digs and five aces, and Kierstyn Holland had 16 kills, 11 digs, six aces and four blocks.

Host Southeast also took part in the tourney, falling to Ridgeland 2-1, Sonoraville 2-0, LaFayette 2-0 and Northwest 2-0.
