Friday night football storylines: Area teams look for victory in final regular season games

North Murray hosts region undefeated Rockmart
After defeating Coahulla Creek High School 40-15 last week, North Murray welcomes region rival Rockmart for its final game of the regular season.

The Mountaineers (6-3, 5-2 Region 7-2A) host the Yellowjackets (7-2, 7-0 Region 7-2A) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The game will mark Rockmart’s second straight week of traveling to Chatsworth after shutting out Murray County 72-0 last week at Murray Field. The Yellowjackets remain in first in the Region 7-2A rankings.
North Murray is in third. Its winning performance against Coahulla Creek last week included three touchdowns from Layten Myers, one from Jacob Daley and two from quarterback Hudson Hulett, who finished 7-for-11 with 132 passing yards and 219 rushing yards.
Rockmart’s win over Murray County featured two quarterbacks in senior Luke Parker, who was 6-for-8 with 153 passing yards, and junior Hagen Sharp, who was 1 for 5 with 23 passing yards.
Dalton looks for a win over Woodland
The Catamounts (0-9, 0-5 Region 7-4A) host the Woodland Wildcats of Cartersville (2-7, 1-5 Region 7-4A) at Harmon Field on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Dalton leads the series 7-1. Dalton has won the last six, including a 42-7 road victory over the Wildcats last year.
Dalton had a bye last week. Woodland was shut out by Cedartown 52-0.
Coahulla Creek travels to Ringgold for final region game
The Colts (1-8, 1-6 Region 7-2A) travel to Ringgold (6-3, 4-3 Region 7-2A) for region play Friday night at 7:30. It is the final regular season game for both.
The game will mark the 13th time the Colts and Tigers have squared off, with Ringgold leading the series 10-2.
After losing to the Tigers in 2020, 2021 and 2022, the Colts won 20-17 last year.
In a 40-15 loss to North Murray in Chatsworth last week, Coahulla Creek showed early fire thanks to rushing and passing touchdowns from Tyler Douglas. Colts quarterback Waelyn Baliles was 9 for 16 with 170 passing yards against the Mountaineers.
Ringgold last played on Oct. 18 when they bested Sonoraville 20-14.
Christian Heritage School to battle Armuchee
Following its loss last week to Fannin County, Christian Heritage School looks to get back on the winning track in its final game of regular season play.
The Lions (7-2, 5-1 Region 7-A DI) make the trip to Rome to battle Armuchee (3-7, 0-6 Region 7-A DI) Friday at 7:30 p.m.
After a seven-game winning streak that included wins against Chattooga, Coosa, Gordon Central and Dade County, Christian Heritage endured a 48-21 loss to Fannin County at home.
During that game the Lions made several big offensive and defensive plays, including touchdowns from Dontae Crowder, Ayden Pace and Ryder Burse, a fumble recovery and quarterback sack by Benji Michmerhuizen and three successful point after kicks from Sam Bishop.
Lions quarterback Carter Triplett was 20 for 45 with 331 passing yards and 52 rushing yards against the Rebels.
Friday’s game will be the first contest between Christian Heritage and Armuchee, which share a region for the first time.
Armuchee comes into the game following a 42-35 loss to Gordon Central in overtime last week.
Southeast Whitfield seeks to keep momentum going
Southeast Whitfield picked up its first win last week with a 7-3 road victory over Towns County.
The Raiders (1-7, 0-1 Region 7-4A) will seek to keep that late-stage momentum going when they travel to Chattanooga to take on Grace Baptist Academy (6-3) Friday at 7 p.m.
During last week’s game in Hiawassee, the Raiders’ lone touchdown was from Alberto Rios, a 5-yard rushing touchdown.
The Raiders face Grace Baptist Academy’s Golden Eagles for the first time. Last week, the Golden Eagles defeated Concord Christian 28-21.
Murray County resumes rivalry with Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe
The Indians (1-8, 0-7 Region 7-2A) take to the road to meet Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe (3-6, 2-5 Region 7-2A) in region action at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Murray County has a storied rivalry with L-FO, which includes 47 games. Leading the series with 25 wins, Murray County defeated L-FO 38-35 in 2020.
The Indians hope to add another victory against the Warriors in their last regular season game.
