High school basketball busy on Friday

High school basketball will get off to a fast start this week.

The Catamounts and Lady Catamounts will return to action on Friday at home against Northwest Whitfield. Those teams played before the Christmas break with the Dalton squads both winning by double digits.

The Catamounts (7-5, 5-0) are coming off three straight losses in Christmas tournament play. The Cats lost to Cherokee (of Etowah), Butler (of Augusta) and Campbell (of Smyrna).

The Lady Cats (9-3, 4-1) won two of three in their holiday tournament, beating Osborne 69-35 and Alexander 65-44 before dropping a 67-65 decision to Region 3-6A power Campbell.

The Northwest Whitfield teams will come into the games after a long layoff.

The Bruins (9-1, 2-0 in Region 7-3A) last played on Dec. 19, beating Chattanooga School for Liberal Arts 49-39.

The Lady Bruins (8-1, 2-0) beat Rhea County 62-54 on Dec. 19.

Other games

Coahulla Creek and North Murray will battle in Region 7-2A games on Friday. The junior varsity game tips off at 1 p.m. followed by the varsity girls at 2:30 and the varsity boys at 4 p.m.

The Colts will enter the game with a 10-2 overall record and a 4-1 region mark. The Colts last played on Dec. 23.

North Murray is 5-5 and 1-3 in Region 7-2A.

The girls game should be a good matchup.

The Coahulla Creek girls are 8-4 overall but all four losses are in Region 7-2A competition.

The Lady Mountaineers are also 0-4 in region play and 3-8 overall.

Murray County’s Lady Indians, who made it to the Final Four last season, have continued to play strong basketball despite losing sophomore star Miley McClure for the season because of a knee injury.

The Lady Indians (12-0, 7-0) will return to Region 7-2A action on Jan. 7 with a road game at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.

The Murray County boys (3-9, 3-3) will play LFO after the girls game.

The Christian Heritage School Lions are also off to an unbeaten start. The Lions are 7-0 overall and 4-0 in Region 7-A (D-1).

The Lions were set to play Walker Valley in a tournament game on Monday at 5:30. Check our website for results.

Their next scheduled game is Friday at home against Armuchee. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.

The Christian Heritage girls (8-1, 3-1) will play Rome on Monday at 4 p.m. Check our website for results.

They will jump ball at 6 p.m. on Friday at home against the Armuchee Lady Indians.

Fannin County will host The Dalton Academy boys (0-8, 0-1 in Region 7A (D-1) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Girls play starts at 6 p.m. The Dalton Academy is 0-9.

The Southeast Whitfield Raiders and Lady Raiders will wait until Saturday to resume their seasons.

The Lady Raiders (2-6, 1-4) will travel to North Murray for a 3 p.m. tipoff.

The boys game will start at 4:30 with the Raiders (0-11, 0-5 in Region 7 4-A) still seeking their first win of the season.
