High school softball roundup: Northwest stops skid with win over Calhoun, Murray County wins on walk-off

Northwest Whitfield 4, Calhoun 2
Northwest Whitfield (4-11) ended a six-game skid by taking down Calhoun (5-5) on Thursday.

The Lady Bruins got revenge for a 15-3 loss to Calhoun Tuesday.
After Northwest scored the first run of the game in the third, Calhoun tied the game with one run in the fourth.
Northwest grabbed the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth. A Libby Lee sacrifice fly scored Lindsey Harris to make it 2-1. An error on a grounder hit by McKenna Mulkey scored Allison Chastain and made the score 3-1, and Brylee Farmer reached home on a ground out by Kaydi Babb to make it 4-1.
Northwest pitcher Megan Bailey limited Calhoun to one run in the seventh to secure the win.
Bailey went all seven innings, striking out three and allowing just one earned run.
At the plate, Harris tripled, while Maggie Brooker and Paisley Chandler both had two hits.

Dalton 10, Hiram 7
Dalton (3-8) outdueled Hiram (1-10) 10-7 Thursday.
Dalton scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth turn a 7-5 deficit to the 10-7 lead, and pitcher Kaylee Tatum kept Hiram scoreless in the seventh to finish off the win.
Tatum struck out 10 in the game.
Dalton’s Kailyn Anderson tripled and had two RBIs. Halo Tomas and Tatum both had two hits and an RBI, and Samya Simpson also brought in a run.
Dalton plays at Allatoona Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Coahulla Creek 3, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe 2
Coahulla Creek (9-3) slipped past Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe (5-6) 3-2 Thursday.
Creek scored all three of its runs in the first two innings and didn’t need to score again as pitcher Haley Curtis allowed just five hits and struck out nine.
Coahulla was held to seven hits, but five of them came from Caroline Reed and Annie Reed. Caroline doubled and tripled, while Annie went 3-for-3. Both Reeds had RBIs.
Creek plays at North Cobb Christian on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
Christian Heritage 16, Gordon Central 1
Christian Heritage (4-4) cruised past Gordon Central (1-6) 16-1 on Thursday.
Christian Heritage scored in each of the five innings plays, starting with one in the first, then adding one apiece in the second and third and five apiece in the fourth and fifth.
Kate Mireles went 3-for-3 while belting three extra-base hits. She had two doubles and a triple. Charlize Brown had two doubles, while Kaymin Arrants had one. Brown and Sidey Carpenter both had three RBIs.
Ava Parkinson struck out seven from the mound.
Christian Heritage plays at Adairsville Wednesday at 5:55 p.m.
Murray County 9, North Cobb Christian 8
Murray County (7-5) snapped a four-game skid with a 9-8 win over North Cobb Christian (5-7) Thursday.
Trailing 9-7 in the bottom of the seventh, Murray scored two runs to tie the game, then won on a Callan Ledford walk-off single. Lanie Spence singled to bring in Branlyn Fouts and Brayleigh Amos to tie the game.
Alyssa Barnett and Blakelee Ledford both doubled in the game, and Emerie Bohannon went 2-for-4.
Murray plays at Union County on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
Allatoona 5, Southeast Whitfield 1
Southeast Whitfield (0-12) came up short against Allatoona (9-2) 5-1 Thursday.
Avery Skyles and Piper Shoemake both tripled for Southeast, and Michaela Pendley had a double.
The Lady Raiders play at Cass on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
