After weekend tournament win, Coahulla Creek takes hard-fought match over Starr’s Mill

After taking home a weekend tournament championship by finishing 4-1 and winning the Lynn Cannon Memorial Classic tournament at White County High School in Sparta, Tennessee, on Saturday, Coahulla Creek earned a hard-fought win over Starr’s Mill in a tri-match at Carrollton High Tuesday.

Coahulla Creek fell in two sets to host Carrollton, 25-18 and 26-24, Tuesday, before knocking off Starr’s Mill in a match that went down to the last point of a tiebreaker set.

Creek dropped the first set 25-21, then won the second set 25-16 to force a third. After a 14-14 tie in the third, Creek won tiebreaker 16-14. Jelleny Mallozzi got the game-winning kill after an attempted block of her tap-over went wide.

Creek won the weekend tourney by grabbing wins over Tennessee schools DeKalb County, Monterey, Gordonsville and host White County.

Coahulla plays in a tri-match at Dalton against Dalton and Northwest Thursday.

Dalton beats Woodland, drops to Cartersville

Dalton split an Area 7-4A tri-match Tuesday, defeating Woodland in two sets and falling to Cartersville in three.

Dalton dispatched Woodland, which hosted the tri-match.

The Lady Catamounts then fell to Cartersville in three sets.

Dalton won the first 25-18, then Cartersville struck back with a 25-23 set to force a third. Cartersville cruised to a 15-7 win in the tiebreaker to take the match.

Dalton will host a tri-match with Coahulla Creek and Northwest Whitfield on Thursday.

North Murray beats TDA at tri-match, both fall to Fannin

North Murray took down The Dalton Academy 2-0 during a tri-match in which both schools fell to Fannin County.

North Murray beat Dalton Academy 25-11 in the first set, then held off the Lady Pumas 25-21 in a hard-fought second set. Isabella Quiñones and Seidy Luego each had three kills and Haley Marquez had five digs for Dalton Academy.

Fannin beat TDA 25-11 and 25-4. Campos has six digs, while Rosa Roman had four.

North Murray fell to Fannin in two sets, losing 25-10 and 25-15.

Dalton Academy plays Christian Heritage Thursday at 5 p.m., while North Murray is off until Sept. 10, whit it hosts North Cobb Christian and Ringgold.
