High school softball roundup: North Murray blanks Union County, Creek defeats region-leading Rockmart

Coahulla Creek 5, Rockmart 3

Coahulla Creek (13-7) got a win over region-leading Rockmart (14-4) 5-3 Tuesday.

Rockmart came into the game with an 8-0 record in Region 7-2A and defeated the Lady Colts in their previous meeting.

Coahulla Creek turned it on with four runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the win. Creek had trailed 3-1, but, after the four runs in the seventh, Rockmart couldn’t respond.

Ally Franks brought in two runs in the game for Creek, while Shelly Johnson and Kayden Stuckey each had an RBI and a double. Bailey Warnix had a pair of doubles.

Warnix and Haley Curtis combined on the mound in the winning effort. Warnix pitched four innings, striking out three, while Curtis finished out the game with the final three innings.

Creek hosts Ringgold on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

North Murray 7, Union County 0

North Murray (6-17) blanked Union County (9-12) 7-0 Tuesday.

After a scoreless first two innings, North Murray out in four runs in the third.

Lily Beavers tripled for North Murray, and Jayden Watson doubled. Cadence Mulkey and Kaitlyn Malone both finished with two hits.

Jazmyn Wright pitched the complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits and striking out five.

The win snapped an eight-game skid for North Murray.

Northwest Whitfield 9, Ridgeland 6

Northwest Whitfield (7-15) downed Ridgeland (7-14) 9-6 Tuesday.

The Lady Bruins exploded in the first inning, scoring six runs, then adding two in the second.

McKenna Mitchell, Kallie Smith and Jolie Albertson all doubled, while Mitchell and Smith brought in two RBIs apiece.

Chattooga 7, Christian Heritage 3

Christian Heritage (6-11) fell 7-3 to Chattooga (9-8) on Tuesday.

In the loss, Charlize Brown tripled for Christian Heritage, while Madi Lumpkin doubled. Ariana Battle tallied a pair of RBIs and Ava Parkinson had another.

Brown also went all seven innings on the mound, totaling 11 strikeouts.

Christian Heritage plays at Armuchee on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Cartersville 14, Dalton 0

Dalton (4-13) dropped 14-0 on Tuesday to Cartersville (15-4).

The Lady Catamounts were held without a hit in the five-inning game.

Dalton returns to action with a Thursday game at Hiram at 5:30 p.m.

Cedartown 10, Southeast Whitfield 1

A big fifth inning helped Cedartown (16-8) pull away from Southeast Whitfield (1-17) in a 10-1 Southeast loss on Tuesday.

Cedartown led just 3-1 entering the inning, then ripped of seven runs.

Chyann Blevins had the RBI on the lone Lady Raider run. Michaela Pendley had a pair of hits.

Southeast travels to Hiram Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
